Charles E. Harrell, Jr.
Savannah - Charles Edward Harrell, Jr., 77, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at his residence under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was a communicant of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church. Mr. Harrell retired after twenty years of service from the United States Marines with the rank of Master Gunnery Sgt. and was the recipient of a Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the Fenian Society. He also retired from the United States Postal Service after twenty years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary S. Harrell, two daughters, Barbara Scott and Victoria Jenkins, one son, Michael Harrell, two brothers, Robert Portune and Jimmy Portune, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2008 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
I am not all that familiar with Uncle Eddy and this saddens me to have not been able to get to know him more. I wish all of the family my condolences and am very sorry for their loss. Love, Rachael
